Eh? They tell u that u can get online gaming but not using their network but they tell u can also connect (to online games I assume). Which one is it?
Below is taken from the Xbox website:

What's up with AOL Broadband and Xbox Live?
It is currently not possible to connect to Xbox Live using AOL Broadband service provided over DSL or cable networks. Although we have been working with AOL, we have not come up with a mutually agreeable workaround at this time. We are continuing to actively work with AOL Broadband to develop a solution to this issue. We apologise for any inconvenience and please check back here for updated information.

Anyway this is what I do to get my Xbox online;

I just connect the Xbox to the hub, works fine. But you can also do this;

aol are not telling a lie but not the whole truth....you can play online but with your pc and as for xbox live it was a well documented fact that aol was not gonna support xbox live and as far as i know there is no way you will be playing xbox live with aol............even if you set up a shared connection through your pc i know its not much help for you and i hope i am wrong but i would say once the 12 months are up get rid of aol a sign with a decent provider

Lessons to be learnt from this: Don't use AOL. :)
Yes, AOL is shit but connecting to Xbox live should still be possible. If the modem they supplied to you is usb and connects into your machine directly then all you should need to do is use a cross-over cable from the PC network card into the Xbox. Then setup the network ips, gateways and subnet masks. Your xbox is now LAN'ed to PC and should auto configure itself ready for Xbox live. I've managed to connect my ISDN connection to Xbox live in a similar way.
Alternatively you might have to splash out on a new modem and router which would be useful since it will be easier to configure and you won't have to have your PC on when you want to play your Xbox on the net.
You can use live on virtually any ISP, even dial-up if you configure your network properly. As I say I've done it on ISDN with no problems.
Let me know if you want to know anything else.
