View Full Version : ut2003 graphics
just got ut2003, and i was expecting a pile of shit in regards to graphics. I got a tnt2, so i assumed it would be unplayable. However the graphics are slightly like the quake3 engine, except they are more blurry. But the main thing is, there was no lag from the graphics card- so im happy :)
im getting my gf4 on saturday anyway
bring on the multiplayer!!:daddy:
It seems to be a very efficient engine, Runs very swiftly on my 850 Duron/GF3 when BF1942 lags badly. UT2003 is obviously the better looking game too.

I'm well jealous :(
make sure you post a screenie for drooling over when you get it :D
DE did a great job on the game... just not like old UT which I prefered over Quake3, but the game is starting to build on me... I'm probably going out to get the game soon when i get my new puter...
at the end of Nov, the UT2003 team is teaming with Nvidia to promote NV30... they say UT2003 will be tweaked (& more polys) to take advantage of a few new features...
have u tried Bombing Run... so hard to keep track of the damn ball...
will do snaker
i was just playing the deathmatch MP mode.
Its pretty much what i expected...quake3 except its called ut2003. I was owning everyone so i stopped playing. i played on 4 maps, and came 2nd on 2 of them :)
Also 56kers, you can actually use your connection for your advantage. Because its so fast paced, people find it hard to hit you because you bounce around more :)

Theres fuck all revolutionary about Unreal 2003 :(
It just MORE pollys and HIGHER res textures...
the lighting system is virtually the same as the origonal unreal... all vertex. Not real time. :(
DOOM3 and Halo 2 will be using the real time lighting stuff.. it very good and much more accurate than .. lightmaps :)

I bought Unreal 2003 the other day and i have to say im very infuckingpressed, the graphics are absaloutly excellent. I have built a fast machine with a good graphics card (the geforce 4 TI 4600) so i expected decent results graphically. I was pleasently surprised cuz when i ran it flat out with the new 40.72 drivers, and all the settings to the peak performance, it handled it really well. I could not tell the difference between playing online or single player whatsoever, it's just so stable
The game play aswell is top notch, a real good laugh, with fantastic maps. My advise to anyone is go and buy this game, its fun, entertaining and value for money which cannot be said for alot of other games on the market right now.
thanx Chip Hazard
slightly off topic, but i vaguely remember something about there being a UT game every year...is this true? If so, then thats lame.

Unreal II is due out next year in the spring as the sequel to Unreal. http://www.unreal2.com/
Not sure about any further Unreal Tournament games being released though.

You all may think Unreal 2003 looks the shitZ Nits right now but when we start to see games with unified real time per pixel lighting then it will be some a whole lot different.
I don't get it... They call Unreal 2003 'next gen' and stuff but it still uses light maps and these are totally old hat.
For example if we had per pixel lighting real time lighting we could actually have proper moving enviroments. The chains in asbestdos don't move... in fact if they did it would not work at all well since all the shadows are prerendered lightmaps anyway.
Also when you fire a weapon it does not cast shadows but just illuminates the ground by placing a big glow texture underneith the player firing.
Great game but IMO the graphics are not all that mind blowing.
Van - do u know if this is 2003 fer sure... just been seeing lots of conflicting release dates... I read Nov19 somewhere but I remember it was being pushed back till next year...
looks very tasty...
I think it would be stupid to release a new UT every year... why flood the market with even more of the same old same old... I'm sure it's their way of being able to support what the newest video cards have to offer, but come on, use the imagination that u guyz get paid for, along with writing the code and being able to alpha/beta test it... :D
