Well I aint been around here for a good two weeks. You see two weks ago I changed my CPU htz from 100 to 133 in the bios and the PC never booted again.

I took it to maplins, as they had installed the CPU and Mainboard 3 months prior when they both decided to die on me, so in I went. After a good twenty minutes wait, the guy who fixed my PC orignally was talking to some guy about video cameras, finally turned to me.

PC's fucked. I said. Got your receipt. He said. No. I said. After an extensive talk about how he DID repair the PC, he agreed to take it into shop.

A week later I called (if you can get through they never answer, VERY annoying) repeatedly for a few days, finally getting an answer. Ho sorry, we aint looked at it yet.

Next day they call me  and tell me the CPU is fucked, oh i said, i had a m8 test the board and CPU and he said the board was fucked. So they said we will call you tomorrow.

They didnt, and the next day I went into store. Some guy went out back, stood there, im sure in a trance with himself, then came back and said the guy said the work would be carried out 2moro. Whats wrong with it I said. I dont know the guy said. I could tell he was making this shit up and he didnt talk to anyone out back. I let him off the hook as he started to go on about how long it had been since I took the PC in.

Yesterday passed no communication. So I got a quote of £150 from another shop for an XP2000 CPU and a mainboard+ fitting. So today I called maplin to get my PC back, but as I didnt have my receipt, they decided to send it off to their repairs HQ without telling me. So now I cant even get the upgrade done at the other shop. They did say they would do the repairs for free as ive been pissed about, but another TWO weeks until I get it back.

MAPLIN SUCKS

So ill cya in two weeks.:chain:

Gotta  the GF for having a PC.

Only buy COMPONENTS from maplin, they are good for that. I doubt they could actually put a PC together compently tho :)

I did that the other day ona machine, tryed bunging it upto 133 and it wouldnt turn on, removed the cmos battery left it for 5 mins, turned it back on and it worked, so did they shaft ya or did it really bugger the CPU, dont trust shops, use little guys like me :)

example. today I went out to a machine that the owner had taken to a shop coz of various win98 probs, the shop formated and reinstalled 98 but it didnt like it and then kept saying windows protection error, defeated by this they descided to install ME for her  (Gateway 266 with 64mb of RAM). So I went round took the machine away, formated to put back on 98 got the protection error, so with alot of trial and error a bit of help from herman I found it to be the Bois needed updating, so I did that, d/l'ed all the drivers got it all running, took it back installed all the ISDN and norton antivirus (which the shop wasnt able to do for some reason) also while I was there I upgraded it to 128mb of ram, total bill came in at 85 quid where as the shop charged 40 quid an hour for her to take the machine in!! Overall a very satisfied customer that also took me leaflets to give out to all her friends soooooo.... Remember use the little guys coz generaly they have hearts and want to keep their customers ;)

I would have found the BIOS reset jumper myself or as Rammy says remove the battery and let the mobo load with default settings..

Yup, i thought i screwed my bios, but all i had to do was change the jumper. So i did. Good thing i red the note on the cover of the manual, and inside the cover, and inside the back cover, and on the little slip of paper that fell out when i took it our of the static bag :)

I tried the bios reset that didnt work, but I didnt try taking the battery off for 5 mins. Oh well.
