A Brief History of Everything

I've decided it would be cool to have an encapsulated history of NationStates -- a summary of the major events that have taken place in the game so far. Here I'm thinking more in-game stuff than RP -- invasions, power struggles in major regions, that kind of thing -- but RP events of major significance could be mentioned, too.

Just 100 - 300 words on each would be about right. If you'd like to contribute, post a submission in this thread. Then I'll organize them all into a sticky!

Because there's a little Historian in all of us.

I mean mainly in-game, regional events -- like, just for example, there might be an entry on "the Rise and Rise of Francos Spain."

Mh...I might add some thing later.

Are you talking like a war or something if so then we had this one war where at the end of the war ten or more twenty or more nations were deleted. Thats about the only thing.

I will be adding something when the civil war is over.

The History of The Heartland, Part I:
The Birth of The Heartland

The Heartland region was founded by the Grand Duchy of Ineptia on December 30, 2002 based on the values and culture of the American Midwest—peace, prosperity, and integrity. Other nations soon joined: Drunk Rednecks and Gun Totin Rednecks on December 31, and Lost Vegas on January 1, 2003. This new coalition was tested from the start as a bloc of nations from the Neo Axis Alliance (now defunct) threatened to attack and destroy the entire Heartland region in an amazing early display of God-moding. Fortunately, this aggressive act was successfully countered and calm was soon restored to the region. On January 30, an invitation to join The Heartland was issued to Aerigia, a strong friend and ally that was itself in a declining region. Aerigia accepted this offer, and soon joined Ineptia, Drunk Rednecks, Gun Totin Rednecks, and Lost Vegas to form the core of what would eventually become the vast region of The Heartland.

October 2002:
Europe remains a fledgling nation in the NationStates World, consisting of only 11 members. The first UN Delegate for Europe is the Holy Empire of Bananas.

Early November 2002:
Due to a hefty period of inactivity and a lack of a democratic nature, Chlamydia, Grated Cheese and Hysteria begin a campaign to elect Hysteria as a Delegate on democratic principles, that the Delegate's vote will be cast based on the votes of Europe's UN members, and not their own opinions.

Mid November 2002:
Aaronistan beats them to it, becoming the UN Delegate. However, Hysteria's support continues to grow.

Late November 2002:
Hysteria replaces Aaronistan as the UN Delegate, but only for a limited time, as Saidera, another Delegate rival, emerges. Endorsement levels are literally only one or two apart for almost a week.

Early December 2002:
A freak bug in NS (there were lots of them back then) wipes the endorsements of almost half of the nations in Europe. Grated Cheese becomes a temporary UN Delegate, as both Delegate candidates have their endorsements reset to 0.

Mid December 2002:
Hysteria stands down, as do their rivals. Grated Cheese elected as UN Delegate.
January 2003

January 10th 2003:
EU Constitution is written. Meanwhile, Europe has grown to nearly 500 nations.

January 15th:
The web forums at http://www.europe-forum.tk are established to give the nations of Europe a place for discussion better than the regional headquarters. The EU is formally established.

January 27th:
Webdesign puts up the first version of a map of Europe.

March 3rd:
"Endorsement-swapping" is for the first time successfully used by the nation of Tadibabak to become delegate. They are defeated within a day. Europe's numbers have increased to more than 700 nations.

May 8th:
The nation of Memelland tries to overthrow the UN delegate Grated Cheese by secretly trading endorsements. Memelland is the first nation to be ejected from Europe. Extended delegate powers and founders have been introduced to the game.

May 18th:
Schumania elected as Regional Founder.

May 27th:
Schumania formally appointed as Regional Founder by a clumsy mod who forgets to type in his full nation title!

May 28th:
Shalom Alechem, a puppet nation of Memelland, manages to take over the delegate position. Memelland takes revenge by banning all nations from Europe (more than 750 at this time) and password-protects the region. Nendeln founds the region of New Europe, where the banned nations regroup.

May 29th:
Memelland and Shalom Alechem are deleted and banned from the game. Bans and password are removed. Nations move back in from New Europe and the Rejected Realms. Schumania is appointed as a founder, following an electoral decision which had been made earlier.

November 9th:
The nation of East Colorado becomes UN Delegate for Europe, as other nations officially launch bids for the delegacy.

November 20th:
Long-serving European member, and Regional Founder, Schumania, disappears forever from the NationStates game.

November 22nd:
East Colorado resigns from the Delegacy, after intense criticism from some European nations. Nendeln, with the most endorsements becomes the new UN Delegate.

December 1st: The nation of EuroFounder, a shared puppet, is appointed Founder of Europe.
