    [6.8] Imperial Layartebian Weaponry

Note: † denotes that the system listed is top-secret IC. # denotes that the system is in limited use only

This is the inventory of all weaponry used by the Imperial Layartebian Military ranging from the average soldier to the most sophisticated fighting unit. Most weaponry is built solely by the Layartebian Defense Corporation but, on occassion, the ILM will buy foreign weaponry though only if they are of a high caliber of design. In particularly and of worthy note, the ILM uses Doomani and Cottish technology to a high degree and high regard.

[6.9] Imperial Layartebian Weapons of Mass Destruction

Note: † denotes that the system listed is top-secret IC. †† denotes that the system listed is stockpiled only. ††† denotes that the system listed is both stockpiled and top-secret IC.

The Empire of Layarteb is, by all means, a declared nuclear power that possesses both chemical and biological weapons, only the former of which it acknowledges. The Empire also possesses salting weapons such as Cobalt bombs and Neutron bombs. The Imperial Layartebian Military possesses four delivery methods for its WMD arsenal: air, land, sea, and space. The Republic of Layarteb tested its first atomic bomb in 1941 with a crucial yield of 15 kilotons on February 27. It tested its first hydrogen bomb on February 14, 1947. Since then, the Republic of Layarteb has conducted some 649 individual tests with a yield expended of 489.29 megatons. The Empire has conducted only 7 nuclear tests, with an explosive yield of 118.48 megatons.

The WMD arsenal of the ILM is shrouded in strict and compartmentalized secrecy. Little is known about the capabilities except few stated facts, revolving around the presence of Satan/Peacekeeper/Topol-M style ICBMs and Trident II style SLBMs. The stated arsenal of the ILM is only a fraction of what it really has, and the 10% figure is given with little details except the number of warheads. The most powerful thermonuclear device detonated on Earth was at the hand of the Empire, when it detonated a 100 megaton gravity bomb known as the B109 Mod 1 "Apocalypse" Bomb on February 15, 1992, on the island of Tristan da Cunha, in the South Atlantic Ocean. The devastation was incredible and it remains the last nuclear test of the Empire of Layarteb.

The WMD forces are really broken into three groups: mobile, strategic, and tactical forces. The former two are under the direction of the Imperial Layartebian Air Force with the latter being under the command of the Imperial Layartebian Army. Naval nuclear weapons are under strict control of the Imperial Layartebian Navy. The Imperial Layartebian Defense Forces possess no weapons of mass destruction.

The WMD weapons are further classified according to four groups: biological, chemical, nuclear, and salting. The ILM publically admits to possessing both chemical and nuclear weapons but no information has ever been releasing pertaining to either biological or salting weapons and no public admission to their possession has ever been made.

In addition there is a secretive system that is deployed with the Imperial Layartebian Navy. This system is called the "Doomsday" class ship and its name means what it will do. The ship, which was designed to be a "planet-killer" is a naval vessel, which patrols the worlds' oceans at all times. Its crew rotates in 6-month shifts and it has never come into port since the day it has left. Supplies and crew rotations are done by helicopter. It has a tri-level Doomsday device. At the core are 250 tons of Cobalt-59, designed to salt the Earth when exploded. It also is equipped with two 185 megawatt nuclear reactors, which provide for additional radioactive debris. Lastly, throughout the design of the hull are various elements designed to enhance the radiation and salting weapons already equipped with the ship. If detonated, the ship can, effectively, exterminate life on planet Earth within 30 days from its detonation time.

    [7.1] Important Days

The following days of the year are considered important days for the Empire of Layarteb. Days listed in red are considered national holidays. Other days are merely observance days. National holidays, in the Empire of Layarteb, require that all employers pay their workers holiday pay. For full-time workers, holiday pay is an additional eight hours added onto the paycheck at the end of the week and the day off, as recommended. If an employee works on a national holiday, he or she is entitled to double-time for that day and their shift; however many hours it shall be, so long as the allotted pay is more than eight hours. In additional, all governmental buildings are closed on national holidays as well as most other businesses, including but not limited to, banks, law offices, libraries, schools, etc.

    Static Days
    • January 1: New Year's Day is considered a national holiday as it is the start of a new year. Celebrations the previous night are considered to be part of the culture of the Layartebian people and they should not be limited or impeded by the start of a new year, which should begin on a good foot, as a holiday.
    • February 27: The Day of Luna is considered to be the "Christmas" for the Pagan religion within the Empire of Layarteb. The Day of Luna is considered to be the most grievous date in history as the date when the goddess Luna cast the great, ancient warrior Comhghall to the Middle World.
    • May 13: Cessation Day is considered a very important day as it marks the day that the Independence War against Tnemrot ended in the year 1215, after 58 years of fighting.
    • May 30: Memorial Day is a day to remember the fallen soldiers and fighting men of the Empire of Layarteb. It remembers lost soldiers in all wars, whether it is from the Republic of Layarteb or the Empire of Layarteb.
    • July 4: Empire Day is considered the second most important holiday in the Empire of Layarteb. It marks the day that the civil war against the Republic of Layarteb ended and the first day of the Empire of Layarteb.
    • October 31: Independence Day is considered the most important holiday in the Empire of Layarteb. In 1157, on October 31, the Layartebians declared their independence from the Dominion of Tnemrot.
    • November 11: Veterans Day is a day to celebrate all of the veterans of the Empire of Layarteb. Soldiers who served, whether they are living or deceased, are celebrated on November 11 each and every year.
    • December 25: Christmas Day is considered one of the main holidays for the Roman Catholic and other Christian religions, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

    Fluid Days
    • Easter Sunday: Easter Sunday is marked as the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and is the most important holy day for the Roman Catholic and other Christian religions. It is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon in Spring.
    • Election Day: Election Day marks the day where all citizens eligible to vote can vote for their local leaders. It always falls on the first Sunday in November.
    • Mardi Gras/Carnival: Mardi Gras or Carnival is a celebratory day for the Roman Catholic and Christian religions, in celebration of the beginning of Lent and is meant to be a feast day before the Lent fast. It always falls 46 days prior to Easter Sunday.
    • Winter Solstice: Winter Solstice is a major holiday for the Pagan religion within the Empire of Layarteb but it is not recognized as a national holiday like February 27 is. This is the celebration of the death and rebirth of the sun and the death of old life so that new life may be reborn in spring. It is celebrated on either December 21 or December 22, depending on the year.

    [7.2] Domestic Disputes

Major disputes within the borders of the Empire of Layarteb are no laughing matter. They have led to pain and suffering and death and destruction. These disputes, while they may not all be resolved, are notable enough to affect policy profoundly within the Empire of Layarteb and can have international effects as well.
    • Amazonian Territory: Conquered in June and July of 2007, the Amazonian Territory continues to be a hotspot for violence. A heavy insurgent force, backed by international organizations and groups has caused significant violence and delayed the peace process in the Amazonian Territory. Since its inception, it has replaced the Yucatán as the "trouble" state of the Empire.
    • Illegal Drugs: The narcotics trade is a significant concern within the Empire of Layarteb. The use, manufacturing, sale, or trade of illegal drugs is considered to be a severe crime within the Empire of Layarteb, which makes it prominent, especially considering certain territories of the Empire of Layarteb, which, within their bounds, contain areas rip for the production of illegal drugs. Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, the Yucatán, and many other notable places within the Caribbean, Central and South America, and even in North America are rip for growing marijuana and coca especially. Coca plants are native to northwestern South America, making them extremely difficult to control and extremely easy to exploit. The illegal drug trade within the borders of the Empire of Layarteb is a significant international threat as well. The drug trade is dominated by three competing cartels: the Esmeralda Cartel (Venezuela), the Florida Cartel (Cuba), and the Meta Cartel (Colombia). These three cartels have net worths, estimated, to be in excess of §800 billion, combined. They are powerful and corrupt and their business lends its corruption and power to many areas of the Empire where it is difficult to control. In rural towns in Cuba, Colombia, and Venezuela, cartels rule the show and local politicans may be on the bank roll of these cartels. A significant portion of these drugs is shipped out of the borders of the Empire of Layarteb as well as a significant portion being imported into the borders of the Empire of Layarteb. The current "War on Drugs" has focused a combination of civilian police and military efforts against the cartels, in an effort to stamp out the illegal drug trade within and outside of the Empire of Layarteb. Since 2007 and the end of the War on Drugs, this has become far less of an issue.
    • Yucatán: The Yucatán state of the Province of Ynoga has had a firey spirit since it was first conquered. Rule by Layarteb City is not popular within the state and there has been one uprising since it was taken over in 1993. This uprising was brutually suppressed. To date, Layartebian authority in the state is weaker than anywhere else but it is solid enough to hold the state together. Poverty runs rampant throughout the state and illegal drugs have made their way into the state and cartels have a strong hold of the countryside and its productive capabilities. Since 2007, the situation in the Yucatán has significantly improved.

    [7.3] International Disputes

The Empire of Layarteb, like any other state in the world, will never be 100% at ease with its surroundings and each and every other state that exists. Border disputes, extradition problems, and so on and so fourth all shape up to be disputes that affect policy within the Empire of Layarteb.
    • Illegal Drugs: The international drug trade is a major concern for the Empire of Layarteb, especially considering the domestic problems with illegal drugs. The three major cartels within the Empire of Layarteb, the Esmeralda Cartel (Venezuela), the Florida Cartel (Cuba), and the Meta Cartel (Colombia) dominate a significant portion of the international drug trade and ensure that hundreds of thousands of kilograms of illicit substances leave the borders of the Empire of Layarteb each month to pollute the youth of the world. The cartels also see to it that hundreds of thousands of kilograms of illicit substances enter the borders of the Empire of Layarteb as well. Since the conclusion of the War on Drugs in 2007, this has not become an important issue.
    • Mato Grosso: Mato Grosso continues to be a hotbed for insurgent activity in the northwestern region, bordering the Amazonian Territory. A Layartebian War in September and October 2007 ended on a ceasefire promise that this territory in the northwest would not become a safe haven for insurgents and terrorists. As of December 2007, the area continues to be occupied by hostile forces but in insignificant amounts.
    • Roman Territory: While not a major concern, the Roman presence on Sanibel Island in Florida and at Alert on Ellesmere Island are seen as unpopular amongst the Layartebian people, who feel that both Florida and Ellesmere Island, in their entirety, are rightfully Layartebian. The presence of the Roman Empire, while not hostile, and marginal, at best, does garner some minor rivalry and hatred but nothing significant enough to be a major concern.

    [7.4] Gory Details

The topics listed below are topics that cover some of the more sinister programs and events that have occurred within the timeframe of the Empire of Layarteb. All topics listed in red are still regarded as secret IC. Topics listed in blue are considered to be public only in their existence but not in the actual details except for broad speculation and theory.
    • Easter Island: The annexation of Easter Island was brutal and horrific, albeit short. It rivaled the Yucatán uprising not for bloodshed but for shock. The island, controlled by cannibals, was forcefully taken by the Imperial Layartebian Navy but it was not a war that was won by any means. The island is fully in the control of the Layartebians but there were no survivors from the actual war, in so far as natives are concerned. The Decayed is the story of that island.
    • Galapagos Islands Genocide: Following the capture of the Galapagos Islands all civilians were ordered to be relocated from the islands to live throughout the Empire of Layarteb, as the islands were considered to be unfit for human survival following the war. The truth of the matter was that the island group was being transformed into a military base. A total of 31,273 civilians were placed on ships to be evacuated from the island group. Their ships were sunk by explosives placed within the confines of the ships. The explosives were placed by Layartebian agents and all 31,273 civilians were killed. The attack was blamed on an international group of terrorists. The Layartebian Chronicles has three parts dedicated to the proceedings on the Galapagos Islands.
    • Jay Incident: Jay, Vermont was a small town in northern Vermont on the border of Quebec. It had a population of 426 and was the site test of a new chemical agent synthesized and created in New York. The agent, Agent LA, of the L-series, which meant Layarteb, was a nerve agent like VX but it was combined with a burning agent, which caused skin to melt off the victim. On December 9, 2005, Agent LA was dispersed over the town by an F-19A Ghost Rider and the attack was blamed on a Quebecois terrorist group, which gave casus belli for the Empire to attack and annex Quebec. Only 42 people survived the attack.
    • Kaliningrad: The Layartebian defeat at Kaliningrad is, perhaps, one of the most horrific events in Layartebian history that saw the deaths of many. The brutal war against Layartebian occupation by the Kaliningradians. The Kaliningrad Republic plays a major component of Layartebian history. It was seized in 1990 and established as an autonomous republic immediately, governed by a Parliamentary Democracy. In 1993, during the Fourth Reich invasion of Belarus, a large military force was deployed to the small republic. Permission to deploy the forces there was initially approved by the Prime Minister but it was not approved by the majority of the populace. The Prime Minister was assassinated shortly thereafter and the new party in power demanded that the military withdraw immediately. When they were denied, an immediate insurrection took place against Layartebian forces. The republic was soon seized from its autonomous state and put under complete martial law. For 2 more years, fighting continued between Layartebian forces and Kaliningradian rebels. In 1995, following a tactical and strategic defeat, the Layartebians withdrew from Kaliningrad and granted it independence. The war saw the complete destruction of Kaliningrad City, the capital and largest city, as well as the destruction of most of the country. Some 250,000 were left dead, 125,000 refugees flooded to neighboring lands, and upwards of 400,000 people were wounded. The population of Kaliningrad, at the time of the onset of war, was only 968,000. It remains one of the most humiliating and only defeats the Layartebians faced after 1980. Layartebian casualties numbered only 5,286, a gross difference. Following the withdrawal of the Empire of Layarteb, the Fourth Reich seized Kaliningrad and brutally suppressed rebellious and insurrectionist forces. The invasion followed numerous border violations by Kaliningradian terrorists. In 1998 after the Kaliningradian war was well over, terrorist hijacked a Layartebian airliner in the middle of a Nor'Easter and flew it to Kaliningrad City. A rescue mission was conducted shortly thereafter and all terrorists eliminated. Further terrorist attacks were expected but none came to pass. The Kingdom of Forgotten Warriors tells their story. There are significant violations of human rights.
    • Los Cinco Muertes & Isla Nublar: The presence of these islands is not secret IC nor is the fact that there is a military facility on Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. However, the nature of the facility, which is described as an advanced Umbrella Corporation facility for the research and defeat of highly toxic substances and viruses, is unknown. In reality, the two main islands, Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, are inhabited by the "incurable" people of the Empire of Layarteb. Individuals who test possible for infectious diseases that are incurable are shipped off to these two islands, where they are sequestered from the rest of the people of the Empire of Layarteb. They are free to live their lives on the islands with each other so long as they do not violate the terms of their seclusion, which include two rules: not to escape from the islands and not to make contact with the outside world. The islands are, essentially, big prisons with electronic fencing and secluded guards, who are barricade in their facilities, away from the diseased. Isla del Enfermo tells their story.
    • Nova Prospekt: Nova Prospekt is a political prison on Santa Fé island in the Galapagos Islands. The prison takes up 12 km² and is noted for its harshness. The buildings can be visible by satellite when weather permits but their nature is unknown. Some of the worst criminals of the Empire of Layarteb are sent there. The facility is considered as SuperMAX facility and no escape has ever been successfully carried out and all attempts have been squashed. Torture is a common tool at the facility as well as execution. Traitors are often sent there. The Forsaken Island tells some of the story. The facility can hold up to 8,500 inmates.
    • Prisons: There are thousands of prison facilities in the Empire of Layarteb and none of them are noted for their compassion. Layartebian prisons are situated, mostly, in remote areas, and often in extreme climates. There are a significant number of prisons in the cold northern territories of the Empire of Layarteb. Cruelty towards prisoners, horrific suffering, and painful executions are some of the main topics. Torture is not outlawed and convicted criminals are often abused significantly mentally, physically, and psychologically by both guards and inmates alike. Countless human rights, non-governmental organizations have issued decrees and demands for these prisoners to be treated with due human rights. No requests have been honored.
    • Project APOPHIS: Essentially a doomsday project. More information can be found here.
    • Project VALKRYIE: Project VALKYRIE began shortly after the Canadian Arctic Archipelago was seized and annexed into the Province of Dnalkrad. It is centered at the Valhalla Institute on Emerald Isle, far north in the territory, very near to the Arctic Circle. It was a series of experimentations conducted on human subjects to determine how effective torture can be during interrogation and what methods yielded the best results, as well as to determine new methods. In addition, the project had significant human experimentation with the effects of biological and chemical weapons in efforts to create both ethnic bioweapons and more efficient biological and chemical weapons. The project has had significant success and, in contrast to Project VIKTOR, was not canceled.
    • Project VIKTOR: Project VIKTOR began during the second War on Drugs, started against the cartels in the summer of 2006. Project VIKTOR called for the initial testing of an engineered drug called Valkyr on cartel members held prisoner. The project was designed to see what properties the drug had and its usefulness in interrogation. Initial efforts proved that the drug was useless for interrogation. Individuals were just too "high" to yield any information, let alone stay on topic and stay focused. Project VIKTOR evolved further, into possible mind control. The drug was, indiscriminately and secretly, tested on civilians in four towns within the Empire. The drug was placed in the water supply of four towns in West Virginia, Colombia, Florida, and Honduras. The results were conclusive that the drug could have limited effects with "mind control" but it was still too powerful to yield any results. Tests with less potent forms of the drug were failures as well. A "happy medium" with Valkyr was not found and the project was abandoned in early 2007. Eleven people died as a result of overexposure to the drug.
    • The Ice Box: The Ice Box is another supersecret prison located in a remote region of the Empire of Layarteb. It is located on Vindication Island in the South Sandwich Islands and is a small facility. However, it houses up to 600 inmates. All inmates are convicted felons who have committed either rape or crimes against children. Murderers are not held here and though there is an execution chamber, it is often not used. Inmates spend 22 hours of their day inside of their prison cells, which are concrete boxes that receive little to no heat. The other two hours, they spend outside of the cells, doing hard labor, usually of a meaningless purpose. Many of the prisoners die from hypothermia, which is common since their prison cells are, in essence, "ice boxes." All prisoners sent to this facility receive death sentences in court but are denied the pleasure of death due to their crimes.
    • The Vault: The Vault is a SuperMAX prison facility on Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. It houses up to 1,750 inmates and houses traitors specifically. The inmates are kept in their cells for twenty-four hours each day and are often executed after a few months. There is no television, radio, reading, or any sort of entertainment. Prison cells include only a toilet and a bed and everything is made of concrete. There is nothing else in each room and lights are kept on for twenty hours each day. Prisoners are fed just once a day and are forced to each their food from syrofoam plates without utensils. Prisoners can sometimes die due to these conditions before their scheduled execution.
    • UFOs: The Empire, due to its vast technological standing has attracted extraterrestrial attention. There have been hundreds of UFO sightings across the Empire and many of them are truthful sightings. The Empire has, on numerous occasions, scrambled aircraft to intercept these UFOs, some interceptions ending with a shoot down of the UFO. The wreckage is often quickly carted away and those witnesses who managed to see the incident often disappear and are never seen from again. Significant research into extraterrestrial technology has yielded some of the most classified weapon systems within the Empire of Layarteb, including the F-19 Ghostrider, F-24 Knightowl, F-25 Firefox, B-4 Magnum, B-7 Incubus, and other various aircraft flown secretly by the ILAF and ILN. Alien research facilities exist in West Virginia and Venezuela but they are highly hidden. No living alien life form exists in the Empire of Layarteb and any survivor of a crash is quickly and promptly executed.
    • V-Project: The V-Project has two sections to it, the first being with concern to the Second War on Drugs, which began in 2006. The second section has to do with the annexation of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The V-Project area that has to do with the Second War on Drugs uses the following code-names: "VANQUISHERS," "VENGEANCE," "VENOM," "VIKTOR," "VIPER," and "VORTEX." VANQUISHERS is a codename relating to the members of VENGEANCE, the Joint Task Force formed to fight the Second War on Drugs. They were secretly replaced by VORTEX, a new Joint Task Force created after the VANQUISHERS became public knowledge. VENOM relates to all anti-drug operations and VIPER has to do with interrogations of the cartel members. VIKTOR is a series of experiments done on both cartel members and unknowing civilians using the drug Valkyr for the purpose of studying the effects of mind control. VIKTOR is previously explained in better detail. The V-Project area that has to do with the annexation of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Operation SILENT WIND, uses the following code-names: "VAGABOND," "VALHALLA," "ValkyrIE," and "VERTEX." VAGABOND was the plan to relocate all indigenous peoples and civilians from the Canadian Arctic Archipelago but to dispose of them through execution. VERTEX is a plan to establish secret prisons and military facilities throughout the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, which subsequently founded the VALHALLA Institute on Emerald Isle, where Project VALKRYIE takes place.
    • Valhalla Institute: The Valhalla Institute is a secret prison on Emerald Isle in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The Valhalla Institute is both a research facility and a SuperMAX prison. The Valhalla Institute is the primary place where Project ValkyrIE is conducted. Project ValkyrIE is a project that deals with human experimention and researches the effectiveness of torture as its primary goals but also does experimentation with bioweapons, chemical weapons, and genetic modification. It is an above and underground prison that is as secure as Nova Prospekt and is managed by the same group of soldiers. It is notorious for keeping its prisoners alive for the longest periods of time possible although the records are never to be made public due to their usage.
    • Yucatán Uprising of 2004: An uprising in the Yucatán in 2004 led to a significant but secret military force being deployed there, only to result in the suppression of said insurrection. The insurrection was led by former Mayan leaders who fought in the original war against the Layartebian forces in 1993. The war was horrific and saw the deaths of more than 200,000 Mayan civilians and rebels, as compared to a mere 600 Layartebian military casualties. Horrific scenes of burned villages, brutal executions, and strong violence and excessive force by both sides charred the memory of the Mayan resistance. The use of biological warfare was also used against at least one village. Human rights violations were as rampant here as in Kaliningrad. La Guerra que no Hombre Debe Saber portrays this horrific tale. Details of the uprising have since been leaked to the media by former soldiers of the conflict but they are sketchy. Countless documentaries and investigative reports have been done on the issue but none have met any formal conclusion or any official government assistance.

    [8.0] Roleplaying

I am actively engaged in many RPs at any given time. Most of them revolve around Earth II, a roleplaying group within Nation-States that dates back to November of 2004. In addition, I am involved, periodically, with general Nation-States RPs and my own brand of "story RPs," of which there have been more than a dozen, some successful, some not.

Earth II is both an open and a closed RP. It follows the general idea of an "Earth" RP in that members join and have a spot on Earth. Anyone can join; however, to RP in Earth II you have to belong to Earth II or you can RP as a third-party organization such as a rebel group, resistance group, or corporate entity, whichever you please. It was started, originally, because Earth I was full and it has since grown exponentially. It uses modern tech and remains highly realistic. It was designed to allow players to engage each other on a definite scale versus NS Earth, which is probably the size of Jupiter. It can be found here and new members are always welcome.

My story RPs have a multitude of different ideas. There are those that seemingly make no sense until they are completed. Some explain the deepest, darkest secrets of the Empire whereas others only scratch the surface of a complex entity that has its fair share of secrets. The most successful, to date, has been "Ride the Lightning" and the oldest is "The Layartebian Chronicles." They are generally closed and some have definite endings whereas others do not and the caliber of each one is generally different from the rest. Combined, they form a large story but individually they can confuse.

    [8.1] Roleplaying Legend

In my story RPs, I use a common formatting, which is thus explained below. I do this so that certain things can be made clear and concise. Each different level of formatting makes it easier to read an RP and it makes it flow much better. It is used on all of my story RPs and I have branched out to use the same formatting in all RPs that I am engaged in, even non-Earth II ones. "Red" text is both in use and obsolete because I have not yet ruled it out but I have not used it in some time because, through my writing style, one can determine whether it is a secret IC fact or a public IC fact.

    In Current Use

All text in red type is top secret classified. It is unknown to the normal reader and even anyone else other than those present in the text. All are loyal to the government so please none of that, "We had spies" nonsense because I'm going to ignore it.

Italic text is text that is speech. It is italic to differentiate from normal text.

    Italic underlined text is thought.

    Orange text is a memory.

Green text is documents, communications, etc.

    Small text is a translation.

Bold, blue text is a service announcement meant in OOC form

    Small, bold text is OOC.

    Obsolete

All text in red type is top secret classified. It is unknown to the normal reader and even anyone else other than those present in the text. All are loyal to the government so please none of that, "We had spies" nonsense because I'm going to ignore it.

Blue text is just a minor announcement.

Small, dark red text is documents, communicatiosn, etc. that is top secret classified. It is considered the same as red text.

Bold, gray text is a translation.

Killswitch Engage is a series of non-official, "story" RPs like those previously mentioned. They are much smaller and often very focused rather than encompassing a broad plot like the dedicated story RPs. Often, Killswitch Engage parts will appear within larger RPs and are sometimes connected to them as well. Often, unlike story RPs, they are more open and do not necessarily follow the traditional way a story is written as there are no chapters, parts, or subdivisions within them.

    [8.4] Non-Series Threads

Not all of my important threads and favorite threads fall under the categories of "story" or "Killswitch Engage." There are many threads that I have started that carry some importance as well, especially to my role-playing style. In addition, I would like to recognize several threads and RPs started by others because of their excellence.

    Important Threads
Earth II - Revitalization is an important "Earth-based" RP and it is the longest running to date. With over 20,500 responses and over 265,000 views it is not only the largest but the most viewed thread on Nation-States. At its height it has had over 70 players but has stabilized in the high 20s to mid 30s. All new players are welcome and there is always land to be had.

    Off-Site Links
My Forums are an excellent resource for those interested in Earth II and also for those who want to discuss roleplaying technology.

Lineart Incorporated is the #1 resource for Lineart development and showcasing for Nation-States.

Macabee's Draftroom was created after Sarzonia's and provides a more up-to-date and more visited Draftroom with the same designs as Sarzonia's.

Sarzonia's Draftroom was the original draftroom meant to work out problems and improve technological designs.

    Reference Threads
The Doctrine of Sovereignty is the main Layartebian doctrine pertaining to territorial boundaries, immigration, trade, et cetera. Ignore the '[Earth II]' in the title, it holds weight to all things Layartebian.

Imperial Layartebian Small Arms is a thread that details all of the small arms that my military uses from pistols to rocket-propelled grenades.

Overburdened is a thread detailing some advances in military technology that I have since put into operational service.

Project APOPHIS is a planned Layartebian weapon system that was created and deployed in the event of an extra-terrestrial invasion of Earth. Should humanity be unable to fight off certain extinction, this doomsday-device, weapon system would be employed.

DMG's Factbook is an excellent resource for an excellent roleplayer. DMG has one of the most successful Storefronts on Nation-States and also runs most successful Bank on Nation-States. Within his factbook are a laundry list of RPs that he has created and participates in, including the famous White Tower thread, which, up until recently, was the most viewed and longest thread on Nation-States. It now sits second to Earth II but remains a staplepoint for "fantasy" and "magic" categories in roleplaying.

    [8.5] Corporations

The Empire of Layarteb, a capitalist country with a mixed economy features many prominent corporate entities. Throughout the history of Layarteb, corporations had played a significant role in both policy and progress until the rise of the Empire, where corporate power was significantly reduced. Some of the more prominent corporations ceased to exist and many others grew even more powerful, through interaction with the government and mergers. Despite the leaning towards capitalism, the Empire is a mixed economy meaning that some industries are state-controlled, those being essential utilities, the mail service, and defense contracting. Because of this, the government can directly control the price and availability of essential utilities such as water and power, which eliminates price gouging, which is a favored tactic of oil companies, it can provide mail to any sector of the Empire, regardless of whether or not it is economical to do so, and, lastly, the government has complete control over defense exports and production.

It was during the days of the Republic of Layarteb that corporations grew too powerful, many of them being able to simply "buy" the government and several attempts were made. Corporate lobbying efforts were amongst the most successful and corporations were seen as above the law, being too big to simply stop in most cases. Such practices were outlawed, including the practice of providing money for favors, a major avenue of corruption for the government of the Republic of Layarteb. Currently, many of the corporations that have their headquarters in the Empire belong to the Layartebian League of Commerce, a private entity founded in 1982, whereby corporations could work together to achieve their goals and also to convey their will to the government, legally. Some say this entity has ulterior motives. It is interesting to note that the equity of the Layartebian League of Commerce's individual representatives, when combined, exceeds the budgets of virtually all nations on Earth.

    Major Corporations

    Armacham Technologies

    • Type: Public (LCSE: ACT)
    • Founded: 1964
    • Headquarters: Baltimore, Maryland
    • CEO: Timothy Black
    • Industry: Technology Development
    • Products: Variety of appliances, advanced automobile modifications, aerospace, weaponry
    • Revenue: §85.278 billion (2007)
    • Net Income: §7.285 billion (2007)
    • Employees: 55,000
    • Slogan: "Working for the future and you"
    • Website: www.armachamtechnologies.com

    History

Armacham Technologies, founded in 1964 as a defense contractor, expanded throughout the early 1970s to become, by 1980, the leading manufacturer of cutting edge technology. Armacham Technologies helped pioneered stealthy aircraft such as the F-117 Nighthawk and worked with the Layartebian Defense Corporation to design the Ghostrider and Knightowl series aircraft. During the early 1980s, as the Layartebian Defense Corporation merged many defense contractors together such as McDonnell Douglas, Lockheed, Martin, Grumman, Northrop, and various other firms, the Armacham managed to remain independent. The price for this was losing out on its major defense market as the LDC was required to produce this sector. However, Armacham continued their development of cutting edge technology and expanded into the space sector in the early 1990s, working with the LDC on many designs and developments.

    Information

A globe-spanning conglomerate, Armacham Technologies prides itself on being on the cutting edge of technology, with R&D occurring primarily for military applications, including aerospace. They pioneered highly-efficient nuclear reactors, are currently working on cryogenic suspension technology and possibly cloning technology, although domestic laws severely limit cloning.

    Criticism

Many accuse Armacham of being unethical with regards to their practices. Numerous accidents have been reported at research facilities and manufacturing plants, none of which have been fully investigated, corporate leaders citing confidentiality. Many also accuse Armacham of continued to develop human cloning technologies, despite a ban on this practice by the Empire, although no evidence has been presented that Armacham is violating this ban. Armacham Technologies has also been accused to being its own physical entity as it has a vast array of research facilities and manufacturing plants throughout the world, one encompassing over 15 square miles along the coast of Maine. Armacham also contains a private security force many opponents accuse of being a mercenary unit much like that of Blackwater.

    Blackwater

    • Type: Private
    • Founded: 1997
    • Headquarters: Moyock, North Carolina
    • CEO: Martin Friedmoore
    • Industry: Government contracting
    • Products: Military modifications to vehicles and weapons
    • Revenue: Not Publicly Disclosed
    • Net Income: Not Publicly Disclosed
    • Employees: 6,000
    • Slogan: "Defending those who defend you"
    • Website: www.blackwaterusa.com

    History

Formed originally by several ex-Layartebian Army SOF soldiers to provide advanced training to government contractors as well as law enforcement personnel, Blackwater has grown throughout its short history to become one of the largest government contractors in the Empire. Its elite unit of security contractors can provide escort services and protection for various VIPs throughout the world, both domestic and foreign. Blackwater has grown into a worldwide company, although it remains privately owned. Blackwater provides consulting, training, vehicle modification, research and development, weapon modification, testing, and various other aspects to the militaries of the world.

    Information

Blackwater has the largest private training center in the Empire, with a facility over 7,000 acres. Their company facility is comprised of many unique training ranges, special tactical training areas, and other training support activity centers. They also have extensive technology design and manufacturing capabilities making the Moyock Headquarters a one of a kind center for problem solving excellence.

As one of the world’s most successful security services companies, Blackwater is a leading provider of creative solutions for the Empire. They have designed and manufactured a myriad of innovative products; state of the art remotely piloted airships, IED safe armored personnel carriers, and effective training support systems to name a few. Blackwater operates in several countries delivering critical assistance to clients focused on post conflict and post disaster stabilization efforts.

    Criticism

Blackwater is one of the most criticized company in the world. Opponents to the company call it a mercenary organization that engages in its own private policies, as the company operates a brigade sized contractor force of approximately 3,000 to 5,000 contractors. Several Blackwater contractors have been detained or killed in combat zones and during combat due to "excessive breaches in rules of engagement," and many have been accused of being above the law.

    Cyrex International

    • Type: Public (LCSE: CYI)
    • Founded: 1940
    • Headquarters: Havana, Cuba
    • CEO: Luís Estrella
    • Industry: Textiles
    • Products: Various fibers, carpets, rugs, fabrics
    • Revenue: §15.829 billion (2007)
    • Net Income: §2.88 billion (2007)
    • Employees: 140,000
    • Slogan: "Making everything out of something"
    • Website: www.cyrexinternational.com

    History

Cyrex International started as a small textiles firm in Havana, making carpets and area rugs. It grew throughout the 1950s into a worldwide textiles firm, buying up many of its competitors and cornering the market with new fabrics and new styles. In the 1960s and 1970s, Cyrex International experienced a huge growth that was seen as the apex of its company. Fortunately, for the company, the 1980s brought even more fortune, which stagnated in the 1990s. Fearing a possible downturn in the textiles market in the early 2000s, Cyrex International restructured and continued to grow, even after the Layartebian annexation of Cuba in 2004.

    Information

Cyrex International is a world leader in textiles manufacturing, research, and development. They produce approximately 10% of the world's textiles and sell approximately 26% of the home carpet and rugs in the Empire.

    Criticism

Cyrex International faces significant criticism for its policies abroad. Accused of practicing slave labor conditions in foreign facilities, Cyrex International has a safety record that needs significant improvement abroad. Domestically, Cyrex International is one of the safest companies and has very hospitable plant conditions.

    Layartebian Defense Corporation

    • Type: Public (LCSE: MG)
    • Founded: 1981
    • Headquarters: Falls Church, Virginia
    • CEO: Nicholas Ireland
    • Industry: Arms Manufacturing
    • Products: Weapons
    • Revenue: §759.920 billion (2007)
    • Net Income: §190.15 billion (2007)
    • Employees: 900,000
    • Slogan: "Defending the Empire"
    • Website: www.ldc.com

    History

The Layartebian Defense Corporation was created following the establishment of the Empire. Under an executive order, all independent defense contractors were merged into a single, government-enforced monopoly. Notable companies that merged into the LDC were Heckler & Koch: Layarteb, Colt, Bushmaster, Springfield Armory, Grumman, Northrup, Boeing, General Dynamics, McDonnell Douglas, Rockwell, and Lockheed.

    Information

The Layartebian Defense Corporation is the single arms manufacturer in the Empire of Layarteb with 51% of its shares being owned by the Layartebian government. Laws and regulations built into the LDC mandate that, at all times, the Layartebian government will retain 51% ownership of the corporation. As an enforced monopoly, it has no competition within the borders of the Empire.

    Criticism

The Layartebian Defense Corporation is heavily criticized primarily because of its export division. Until recently, the Layartebian Defense Corporation remained in the top 5 exporters of arms throughout the world. Recently, their position has declined to the top 10 mainly due to a rise of a number of competing firms throughout the world. In addition, all exports must be approved by the Layartebian government, which has fervently refused to arm left-leaning states or groups with arms, creating a bias to which the LDC will naturally have.

    Manchurian Global

    • Type: Public (LCSE: MG)
    • Founded: 1919
    • Headquarters: Layarteb City, New York
    • CEO: John Patrick
    • Industry: Private Equity Firm
    • Products: Construction services for oil, chemicals, and gas, Research & Development, Biomedical Engineering
    • Revenue: §32.005 billion (2007)
    • Net Income: §10.18 billion (2007)
    • Employees: 350,000
    • Slogan: "Investing in your future"
    • Website: www.manchurianglobal.com

    History

Manchurian Global began as a private equity fund in the early 1900s and evolved into a global equity firm in 1928, just prior to the stock market crash. It was during this time that Manchurian Global helped stave off the more harsher effects of the Layartebian Depression, using its own equity and international ties to begin massive construction projects through its contracting companies. During the 1940s and 1950s, Manchurian Global grew by leaps and bounds, expanding into a plethora of fields, often buying companies, restructuring them, and reselling them, akin to Cerebus Capital Management LP. Since then, Manchurian Global has assumed control of many business in the pharmaceutical industry, government services, retail, and a variety of other areas.

    Information

Manchurian Global remains the largest single corporate entity in the Empire, a controlling member of the League of Layartebian Corporations, and the number one government contractor. It routinely is hired to reconstruct war torn areas and provide international relief services. Due to its size, revenue, and structure, it is one of the more resilient corporations in the world.

    Criticism

Manchurian Global remains a strong opponent to many. It is one of the largest corporations in the world and despite the Layartebian downplay of corporate power, Manchurian Global has remained influential, which some accuse of instilling corruption in the Layartebian government. These accusations have proven true in some scenarios with heavy penalties levied to all parties involved. It has been accused of having its own "mercenary force," to which it fervently denies.

    Umbrella Corporation

    • Type: Public (LCSE: UMB)
    • Founded: 1960
    • Headquarters: Raccoon City, West Virginia
    • CEO: Lisa Benn
    • Industry: Medical Research
    • Products: Cosmetic, pharmaceuticals, medical hardware, various others
    • Revenue: §13.01 billion (2007)
    • Net Income: §2.19 billion (2007)
    • Employees: 75,000
    • Slogan: "Our Business Is Life Itself"
    • Website: www.umbrella.com

    History

Umbrella Corporation began in Raccoon City in the 1960s and flourished to become one of the world's leading pharmaceutical research and development companies. Umbrella has been a pioneer in the medical field, producing vaccines and researching diseases untouched by many of its competitors. Umbrella Corporation has been the leading developer of research into AIDS, cancer, and various other infectious diseases such as Ebola and Marbug. Umbrella Corporation put itself on the map in 1969 when it developed a much more powerful vaccine for smallpox, which was widely distributed throughout the world. It has currently produced more innovations in the pharmaceutical field than any company in history.

    Information

Umbrella Corporation has become a leading manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and medical hardware. Recently, they began a cosmetics division, which has seen significant success in the markets of the world, especially in Europe, where many of its subsidiaries in this division are based. Umbrella has many research facilities throughout the world and is the prime source of drive for Raccoon City, which can be defined as a corporate city more than anything, although it is not above the laws set by the Empire.

    Criticism

Many accuse Umbrella Corporation of being the leading manufacturer of biological weapons in the world and accuse the Layartebian government of having a clandestine biological weapons program. Though denied, some evidence has come to light that Umbrella Corporation did work with various military leaders during the days of the Republic to develop a biological weapon from Marbug, which first saw an outbreak in 1967. Umbrella is also accused of having a private military company with a highly-trained security force capable of rescue, reconnaissance, and paramilitary operations as a subsidiary. The corporation utilizes the force to secure and protect its assets and high profile employees.
