Rothstein+Lange: The infrastructure specialists (Civilian construction storefront)
ADVERTISEMENT: ![]() If one wonders what might be so special about Van Luxemburg, people will answer: Their automobiles, and their Autobahns. Rothstein+Lange is proud to say that both those specialties are offered to the world by their companies. Rothstein+Lange is a construction company that has specialized itself in the construction of Van Luxemburgs’ Autobahns, roads and rail lines. It is a semi-independent part of the VLT Automotive Group, and responsible for most Autobahns constructed in Van Luxemburg. And, as most people know, the Autobahn is an experience one has to undergo. It does not only rely on the road quality, but also on the skill the drivers on that road should possess. Therefore, Rothstein+Lange now offers their Autobahn construction ability to the world. However, this is not the only thing. We can also construct rail lines, ports, normal roads, tunnels, bridges and airports. Next to this, we offer extensive driving trainings on Van Luxemburgs’ Autobahns (or on your own, newly-built Autobahns) for inhabitants of your nation. In 1876, Rothstein & Lange was founded by the two business partners Gerard Rothstein and Heinz Lange in the picturesque town of Oberburgau in the region of Enzersdorf. One of their first projects was the construction of an asphalted road from their town Oberburgau to the nearby town of Pichl. As the communities were impressed with the quality delivered by the local company, they were asked to pave many more road in the following roads, in a time when both road and rail transport grew exponentially. Their first national moment of fame came with the completion of the Luxembourg-Enzersdorf railway in 1903, one of the most technologically advanced of it’s time. In 1926, R+L constructed the first of many Autobahns, the A1 from Esch-sur-Alzette. It was the first official Autobahn construction in Van Luxemburg, even though stretches of roads that were vaguely Autobahn-like had been constructed before: even in 1897, the road from Kopstal to Luxembourg was already grade-separated. In 1935, R+L received one of the first official FAI certifications, meaning they were up to the task of constructing VL-standard motorways. Even, in 1969, R+L took the initiative to study the possibilities of constructing a high speed train line in Van Luxemburg. Since the outcome of this study was positive, the construction of the first Van Luxemburger High Speed Train Line was a fact. It was opened in 1980, and nowadays, these HST’s can connect the nation in little more than several hours. R+L experts take seat in the FAI board of commissars, who research incidents with the Van Luxemburger motorways. These experts were the main reason the A48 Autobahn tunnel is still standing nowadays: their support constructions made sure the tunnel did not collapse. R+L, 132 years of infrastructural quality. Why should you choose R+L? Rothstein+Lange has had a Federal Autobahn Inspection certification for 70 years. The FAI certification stands for high quality, according to Van Luxemburger demands. It allows R+L to construct the Van Luxemburger Autobahn, but also guarantees that we attain high standards in this by regular inspections by the FAI, which is a government agency responsible for the quality of everything affiliated with the national motorway and Autobahn system. Autobahn (Regular motorway, Van Luxemburger substandard) ![]() The B41 from Dippach to Clemency in the Region of Luxembourg is a prime example of a regular motorway. Also known as a ‘Yellow Motorway’, this type of Autobahn is substandard to the Van Luxemburger Autobahn. It is therefore cheaper, but is also unable to facilitate high speeds, and therefore, a maximum speed limit of 130 km/h (80 mph) should be enforced, as the maximum design speed was envisioned to be 180 km/h. The Autobahn is delivered with hard shoulders, service stations every 50 km (31 miles), Parkings with WC every 10 km (6.2 miles), roadside signs per your nations’ standard, and Dynamic Route Information Panels (DRIPs, or Variable Message Signs), essentially large, simplified monitors that can show actual traffic information. Emergency telephones are placed every kilometre. The basic construction consists of 2 lanes per direction, each lane being at least 3.75 metres in width. More lanes are possible, but this makes the construction more costly. A 4 metre wide median consisting of grass (or plants) and guardrails divides the two driving directions. Acceleration and Deceleration lanes (for on- and offramps) are long, at least 1 km in length. The road never crosses another road directly, but with bridges and/or cloverleafs. A maximum hill grading of 4%. Asphalt or concrete construction, at least 70 cm in thickness. ‘Ecoducts’ that can facilitate the safe crossing of animals. If required, this Autobahn can be equipped with a toll collection system, either an electronically-controlled one or by making use of manpower to man the toll booths. These toll booths or toll portals will be placed at every Autobahn entrance and exit and the start and end of the Autobahn itself. The cost of this Autobahn is an average of $7,500,000 per kilometre of road. This includes training for maintenance crews and the construction of all roadway amenities. We warn you that the service stations must be exploited by petrol companies, we are not responsible for the exploitation. Please contact us for a more correct price estimate. We can do this price estimate if one fills out the following form: Autobahn construction form G-15 Gelbe Autobahn Nation: Road Name (optional): Start and end locations (optional): Total Amount of Kilometres/Miles: Landscape classification (e.g. Flat, Hilly, mountainous): Landscape description: Number of Lanes desired: Toll booths needed: Yes/No If yes, electronically-controlled or manpower? Van Luxemburger Autobahn ![]() The A1, here pictured near Arnsberg, is a prime example of a Van Luxemburger Autobahn The Van Luxemburger Autobahn is essentially the same as the ‘Yellow Motorway’, but has a thicker road surface, comes with 3 lanes per direction as standard, and can take cars travelling at a maximum speed of 400 km/h on straights (purely theoretical). Therefore, no speed limit should be imposed (unless it is a very busy stretch of road, then we recommend to limit to 130 km/h again.) Like the Gelbe Autobahn, the Van Luxemburger Autobahn is delivered with emergency shoulders, service stations every 30 km (18.6 miles) Parkings with WC every 10 km (6.2 miles), roadside signs per national standards, DRIPs/Variable Message Signs and Emergency Telephones. A new system included is the Electronical Traffic Monitoring system, that will automatically control traffic densities. If the road gets too busy, it will either block entrances, or open more lanes (or close them in case of an accident). This is done by overhead portals with cameras, or sensors under the road. A further addition to this is a heating and cooling system that can cool or heat asphalt to a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. This is done by heating and cooling water elements placed under the road surface: the water that gets heated during the summer can be stored for use in the winter, and vice-versa. Plus, a special technology in the asphalt makes sure that the road never freezes over if the temperature of the road might get below 4 degrees Celsius: microscopic salt particles have been enclosed in the top asphalt layer. At low temperatures, microscopically small cracks in the road surface make that the salt comes into contact with the water on the asphalt and prevents it from freezing over. The basic construction of a Van Luxemburger Autobahn consists of 3 lanes, each 4.5 metres wide. Once again, more lanes are possible, as well as 2 lanes to keep the costs down. A 5-metre wide median is equipped with both concrete barriers and guardrails to keep cars from entering the opposite lanes. Motorway acceleration and deceleration lanes (at entrances and exits) are long, at least 1.5 km, to let the cars get up to speed. The road never crosses another road directly, but with bridges and/or cloverleafs. Tunnels and bridges are constructed when the Autobahn runs through a natural object, such as a mountain or river. A maximum hill grading of 3% Asphalt with a concrete under layer, the complete construction at least 2 metres thick. Possibility for a pile foundation. Ecoducts and aquaducts for safe animal and shipping crossing. If required, this Autobahn can be equipped with a toll collection system, either an electronically-controlled one or by making use of manpower to man the toll booths. These toll booths or toll portals will be placed at every Autobahn entrance and exit and the start and end of the Autobahn itself. The cost for the Van Luxemburger Autobahn is roughly $10,500,000 per kilometre. This includes training of maintenance personnel and all technological systems, as well as all amenities mentioned. We warn you that the service stations must be exploited by oil companies, we are not responsible for the exploitation. Please contact us for a more correct price estimate. We can do this price estimate if one fills out the following form: Autobahn Construction Form B-10 Van Luxemburger Autobahn Nation: Road name (optional): Start and End locations (optional): Total Amount of Kilometres/Miles: Landscape classification (e.g. Flat, Hilly, mountainous): Landscape description: Number of Lanes desired : Toll booths needed: Yes/No If yes, electronically-controlled or manpower? National Roads ![]() The B418 from Luxembourg to Kopstal was one of the first motorway-like roads, in 1897. People do not always desire an expensive motorway network , we know. That is why R+L also constructs more local roads, ranging from dirt roads ($1000 per kilometre) to near-motorway constructions ($5,000,000 per kilometre). Please contact R+L for a quote, with a description of the road envisioned.

High Speed Train Line ![]() A HST train near R+L's headquarters in Oberburgau The HST system in Van Luxemburg was officially opened in 1980, and once again reaffirms the Van Luxemburgers’ speed addiction. Capable of travelling at 350 km/h, the HST’s connect the whole of Van Luxemburg within several hours. The rail line is constructed with wide corners, and a maximum amount of hill grading of 4%. These lines are constructed in straight lines. The railway bedding is constructed out of concrete with a ballasted top layer, which has been strengthened by a pile foundation. On non-ideal ground sorts (e.g. soft soil), a viaduct is constructed to protect the rail line from sinking into the ground. The HST lines should be inspected for imperfections on a regular basis: these imperfections could lead to an unacceptable ride comfort. Tunnels will be constructed with ample space inside, to protect the trains and their passengers from increasing air pressure. The overhead cables (transporting electric current to power the train) have been placed under high tension to prevent unwanted movements. A high voltage is used to reduce the amount of current in the overhead cables, preventing sparks and possible fires. The use of signals is virtually non-existent, as the train will be moving too fast for the driver to properly interpret and react to these signals. Therefore, the rail line will be equipped with a digital train control system, that can display the maximum speed and other warnings inside the train’s cockpit. Furthermore, the HST will be protected against possible collisions by a completely fenced rail line, keeping both humans and animals from entering the line. As standard, the HST line construction comes with 2 track lines. The construction of a HST Line will cost approximately $17,000,000 per kilometre, not including any (re)constructions in terms of stations or rolling stock. A more correct price estimate can be given if the following for is filled out and submitted to R+L. Railway Construction Form L-5 HST Line Nation: Line name (optional): Start and End locations (optional): Total Amount of Kilometres/Miles: Landscape classification (e.g. Flat, Hilly, mountainous): Landscape description: Any special requirements?

Regular rail lines ![]() The Luxembourg-Enzersdorf rail line is one of the most visually pleasuring of all Originally, the first constructions of R+L were mainly rail lines. A famous project is the 1903 Luxembourg-Enzersdorf rail line, a track that leads you through one of the most panoramically interesting areas of the region: The Zinzener Appeninen. Nowadays, R+L has advanced into modern times with the construction of large amounts of rail lines destined for goods transport. The regular railway will be constructed by laying a steady and strong foundation (possibly made out of concrete), on top of which track ballast (made up of heavy crushed stones) will be laid. The two rails will be connected by concrete railway sleepers, providing more strength than wooden sleepers. 25 kV overhead cables will be installed to enable the use of electric trains on these tracks. The lines will be secured by the European Train Control System, one of the most advanced train control systems currently on the market. ETCS Level 3 is standard on all railways constructed by R+L, and almost completely automates the train steering on railways. Regular railways can be constructed with design speeds of 100, 160, 200 or even 250 km/h. Please note that the price will increase when a higher design speed has been chosen, as the corners and grading will have to be adjusted. Rail lines cost approximately $11,000,000 per kilometre for a 160 km/h line. Railway Construction Form L-1 Regular Line Nation: Line name (optional): Start and End locations (optional): Total Amount of Kilometres/Miles: Landscape classification (e.g. Flat, Hilly, mountainous): Landscape description: Desired design speed: Any special requirements?

(OOC: I'm assuming you meant kilometres here, if not, please correct me.)
TO: The Confederacy of Kenavt Dear Sir/Ma'am, We thank you for your order. Our planological department will go to work immediately on preparing work for our construction crews: We expect to have this project finished in 10 years. Since the landscape is not very sculpted and can be easily travelled, construction will be rather straightforward, which can help keeping the cost down. However, the construction of extra lanes, a toll system, driver training and a major intersection lets the cost per kilometre rise to $14,500,000. Since we offered the first 50 kilometres for free, the total price of this project will be $32,775,000,000, or 32 billion, 775 million USD. The electronic toll collection system will be constructed with the help of Walter Technologie N.V., and will be able to collect tolls from vehicles while they drive through an unmanned toll gate. This will slow down traffic at the start, end and entrances and exits of the road, but will surely help cover the costs for this project. All toll revenue will be submitted to the Confederacy of Kenavt. A large intersection in Poiuytrewq will be planned, as per request. The 'cloverleaf' type design of this intersection will make sure that safety and speed go hand-in-hand. TO: Allanea
Dear Sir/Ma'am, The Autobahn is a custom-build project, and the order to it will have to be made by the customer interested in having it designed. Therefore, we do not have a maximum number of lanes: 10 lanes per side is possible, as is more than that. Regarding your question about very heavy vehicles: We have build Van Luxemburger-standard Autobahns with a maximum axle load of 200 tons, which exceptional in modern everyday use (as regular motorways are prepared for around 11.5 tons of axle load). To be honest, we have never experimented with extremely heavy vehicles (weighing over 1000 tons) on our Autobahns. Therefore, we are not sure if we can construct motorways which can carry Super-Heavy Battletanks. Theoretically, it would be possible, if the vehicle has at least 18 axles, since our main problem will be the forming of aquaplaning, and we're not afraid of the road being completely destructed. We would however recommend to take the strongest type of foundation (a pile foundation) and further expand the foundation to at least 3 or 4 metres in thickness; this depends on the ground type. I hope to have answered your questions, please contact me if these questions persist, or if you have other inquiries. Signed, Maurice Cloos Department of Planology Rothstein+Lange Infrabau Gmbh Oberburgau (Enzersdorf) VAN LUXEMBURG ![]()
