my only suggestion is please ... get a java based irc chat tab with default irc channels for every kdom on wol .. that would help the community and teamplay soo much

and you'd link that into what irc server? because unless its utonet people wont use it. If it is Utonet then omac would need to work out an agreement with the utonet staff/owners with regards to the increased charges they will have due to higher traffic etc,
Its not just a simple matter to add irc chat to utopia :(

considering that any kingdom with decent amount if activity has an irc channel , i doubt its that complicated .
I am also sure that Bergee the utonet administrator would be more than happy to help omac in this process . at the level of people that are playing the game i doubt that overcrowding the irc server would be an issue .

But it would help more than any other previous attempts the game creators have made to unite the kdom as a group

not complicated? id say its horribly complicated. If utonet is going to be managed by its original staff, but part of an omac game, who do we go to when/if it goes down. Are bergee and co going to be expected to provide 24/7 support? Will they get paid for it?

There are 751 kds, that means 751 channels + private kd channels + non kd related channels.

it is not as simple as just adding a java applet to utopia.

You don't need to have Irc as the communication tool ingame. Irc will still remain the main tool but you can make a live chat for each kingdom. You can still go on Irc/mess but for the weaker kingdoms / less organized.

omg bishop ... lemme put it this way :

create new tab called "IRC kingdom chat "
Put as link "http://alliancerankings.com/forum/javachat.php" that takes you to the channel : #alliancerankings by default .
For each kingdom replace the default channel with x:x where those are the coordinates .

OMAC works with utopiatemple... replace my url with their own irc java chat which im too lazy to locate . Problem solved ? Complications? I think not.
To save you the trouble of writing another reply telling that it would create a overcrowding of the irc server . Utonet has been able to hold over 30.000 players back in the day when utopia had more players .. so .. no that is not a problem .
Also Omac doesnt have to agree to any terms with utonet administration . Anyone can create as many channels as they please . Also i doubt utonet administration would be against the process .
Would it solve communication problems within kingdoms ? No
Would it improve communication problems within kingdoms ? Very much YES !

not a big fan of a java based client, a cgi client or something i can run on my phone, that doesn't link to utonet.org and is just for talking to your kd would be alright in my books

just another tab under forums called kd messaging or smt

IRC or a chat system is something else. And yes it would be grand to have an ingame chat system.

But relating to the blog post, glad to hear things are going smooth. Let's just hope it keeps going smooth (knocks on head --wood), as now you are porting over the main system of the code :/

lol @ noobs name dropping bergee

Don't need an ingame chat thing, it will just provide people with another excuse to not use irc

EDIT: Your blogs make it seem like everything is going smoothly, and nothing absolutely horrendous is coming up, so, if that remains, how soon till you could get some actual players to try it out?

noobs, problem aint running a javachat, anyone can do that. bishop was talking about the server. Just cause Utonet runs a free service for the community and it have been as much as 30k users on it earlier does not mean they would want to run something for free by standard for OMAC.
And ofc OMAC have to agree to terms with the utonet administration... do you honestly think it's the same thing if a established company wants to use the service of a free server as single users?

well .. I dont know :) I want this implemented thou .. and i think im not the only one ..

It does not affect me if its implemented . But team play is the factor that makes the game interesting , and if a new player cannot experience that he will leave and search for another option fast .

"The problem is that it’s hard to empirically measure the exact behavior of all the mathematical legacy code"

I'd respectfully request, while mimicking existing game function is a good goal - don't waste the opportunity to throw out unproductive features. Like the plague bug (25h is confirmed, RNG is suspected to be streaky) - don't reproduce that one if you can avoid it. Or the debate as to whether mercs are effected by OME... pick one, tell us, and don't worry if the old code did it differently.

In short - when rebuilding from first principles, don't worry if every quirk doesn't match. Just make sure to have a nice big list, compiled by play testers if need be, of all the real or suspected changes. So we finally know stuff like what exactly goes into an attack...

Think Different
